This book covers a lot of topics that interest my 5-year old daughter, however, I would like the book would go few steps further in most cases, and I feel the explanation for some is not as good as I expected. Why dount has hole? “Because it cooks better that way”. I would expect the explanation how the hole affect the heat transmission. There are few ones like this (We haven’t finished the book yet). I have to admit I am not very good at explaining how things work to my daughter, since I usually go into too technical details, so maybe “it cooks better” is the right level of details? There are some cases that the explanation is really eye-opening to me, I’d have never thought to explain (and to think) things in that way to a kid.

Very colorful pictures, as you would expect from National Geographic, and well built that could take some abuse.

National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Why may be intended for preschool (precocious little ones, certainly), but I would say that it’s not at all too simple for ages 6-10.
